Perfume
by Patrick Suskind
The story of an evil man, who has an extraordinary sense of smell, and no odour of his own. His only desire in life are to "own" and create scents, and to be loved. He masters the creation of scents, and when he mixes the perfect perfume, with the ability to make those who smell it weep with joy and worship its creator, he sees it as his defining moment. Instead he hates the very people he wanted love from.
Suskind labours his points a little much, especially about the main character's special abilities -- hey, we've got the point already! But an enjoyable idea nonetheless. Was a quick read too, took just a couple of days.
