Kung Fu Hustle

It was billed as a "Kung Fu Comedy", so I was expecting a dumb hollywood style comedy. But it was a clever comedy that had me enthralled, rather than bored.

The story is of the "Axe Gang", and their domination of a city. When two no-gooders (one played by the director) try to affiliate themselves with the gang when standing over the derelict "pig alley", a tragic and almighty turf war begins. Highlights of the film include the mysticism that is often present in Chinese cinema, although at times the story is a little convuluted and non-sensical. As a kung fu student I also appreciated the actions scenes. For those interested in Kung Fu, this film is an 8 out of 10, otherwise its a 7.
