A little too long, this was an interesting film about the rise and whimpering decline of a heavy weight champion, The Bronx Bull - Jake La Motta. De Niro is excellent in this role, and portrays a man forever on the edge of explosion with a mix of delicacy and force. The turbulence of his personal and professional life is also expertly scripted. Shot in black and white.
