Spook Country

by William Gibson

The stories of Hollis Henry, Tito, Bobby Chombo, Hubertus Bigend, and Milgrim. Hollis is a former underground rock star in search of a story for Node... only she's not sure Node magazine even exists. Tito is a Cuban delivery boy with some special talents and a special family history. Bobby Chombo has a knack for locative technology. Bigend runs an international agency seemingly with a hand in all manner of intrigue, and Milgrim is a junkie translator being held against his will.

In its conclusion this is a gripping book, although the final act of the characters is somewhat underwhelming. The real problem I had with this was the forced name-dropping of brands, locations and people. I realise this was at the core of the whole novel, but it was awkward and exclusionary (for instance, if you don't know about APC, does the fact Tito has an APC jacket mean anything?)

Still, not a bad book.
